2Firsts, January 16, 2026 – According to rupor.md, Moldova is introducing new sanitary norms for tobacco products, electronic cigarettes and related goods, aimed at protecting public health and strengthening control over tobacco sales.
The report says the regulations adopted on January 14 set measures to restrict minors’ access to tobacco products, including through online stores, and establish notification, reporting and market-control procedures. It also describes how manufacturers and sellers are expected to notify authorities about their products, keep records and control sales, including via the internet.
The rules assign oversight responsibilities to the National Agency for Public Health, the report says.
The report adds that after Moldova’s EU accession, companies will use the EU’s EU-CEG online platform to report product composition and characteristics, as part of consumer safety and market surveillance.
According to the report, the new rules will take effect together with Law No. 125/2025, except for provisions that will apply only after Moldova officially joins the European Union.
