Montenegro to Increase Tobacco Tax to Align with EU Standards
Montenegro's government will increase tobacco tax starting February 1 to align with EU standards; further increases planned in July.

According to a report by the local media outlet Seenews, the Montenegrin government will increase the consumption tax on cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products starting from February 1st, in order to align its tax revenue with EU standards.

The specific components will be increased from 49 euros per 1,000 cigarettes to 50.50 euros (55.25 dollars), while the proportional components will remain unchanged.

The consumption tax on smoke-free tobacco products will be increased from 145 euros to 190 euros. It is expected that another increase in the consumption tax, with a similar percentage, will be implemented in early July.
