Lawmakers in Nebraska introduced Legislative Bill 584, imposing an excise tax of 5 cents per milliliter on vaping materials. However, the senator said she was drafting an amendment to change the tax to the sales price percentage, maybe 20%. The bill aims to protect children from the dangers of e-cigarettes.

As of 1st Jan, Nebraska was one of 20 states that did not have an excise tax on vaping products, the Urban Institute said, according to Nebraska Public Radio.

State Senator Jana Hughes said all products containing nicotine have to pay excise tax. Nebraska, for example, imposes an excise tax of 64 cents per pack on cigarettes.

Lawmakers in Nebraska also introduced a bill earlier this year limiting local powers to regulate vaping devices.
