New Regulations in Vaud, Switzerland to Protect Youth Health
Swiss canton of Vaud bans sale of e-cigarettes and vaporizers to under 18s, aiming to protect youth from smoking influences.

According to reports from LA COTE, the Swiss canton of Vaud has implemented a new regulation banning the sale of e-cigarettes and vaporizers to anyone under the age of 18, regardless of nicotine content. This measure is aimed at effectively protecting teenagers from the influence of smoking behaviors, while highlighting Vaud's high level of concern and protection for the health of young people.


According to new regulations, the sale of all e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and similar items will now be subject to the same legal oversight as traditional tobacco products. These laws include the Economic Activities Implementation Law, Advertising Procedures Law, and Public Place Smoking Ban, which were all passed by the full assembly last year.


Furthermore, the Swiss Economic Activities Act now requires all merchants to verify the age of buyers and submit relevant authorization requests when selling these products. The amendment to the Advertising Process Act also prohibits the display of advertisements for these products in public places and visible private properties (such as windows), especially in places where minors may come into contact with them.


During the transitional period of these regulations, businesses and local authorities are allowed enough time to make adjustments, all in response to a motion proposed by Green Party member Graziella Schaller aimed at reducing tobacco-related health costs and smoking rates.


The above are significant adjustments to the sale and advertising of tobacco products in the Swiss canton of Vaud under new regulations, aimed at ensuring the effective protection of public health, especially that of minors.
