Netherlands Seizes 80,000 Illegal Flavored E-cigarettes, Bringing 2025 Total to Over 260,000
Dutch regulators seized and destroyed 80,000 flavored e-cigarettes near Amsterdam Schiphol in July. The importer, fined two months earlier for similar violations, faces heavy penalties as the Netherlands allows only tobacco-flavored vapes.

Key Points:

·The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has seized 80,000 sweet-flavored e-cigarettes from an importer who has previously been caught importing 70,000 bottles of sweet-flavored e-liquid.

·Since the ban in 2023, the NVWA has confiscated a total of 265,000 illegal e-cigarettes in the Netherlands.

【2Firsts News Flash】According to NL Times, on July 9th, approximately 80,000 illegal e-cigarettes were seized in a warehouse near Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands. These e-cigarettes are flavored, and under Dutch law, flavored e-cigarettes are prohibited for sale. The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has confiscated and destroyed this batch of e-cigarettes.

The NVWA stated that the flavors of these e-cigarettes include lemon water, strawberry, kiwi-passion fruit-pomegranate, lemon-lime, and gummy bear. On July 9th, this batch of e-cigarettes was discovered inside a logistics company.

The implicated importer is located in the province of Gelderland and had been previously caught for similar illegal activities two months ago. At that time, the NVWA seized approximately 70,000 bottles of sweet-flavored e-liquid at another warehouse in the province of South Holland.

Currently, only tobacco-flavored e-cigarettes are allowed to be sold in the Netherlands. Sweet-flavored e-cigarettes have been banned because they are easily attractive to adolescents, leading to nicotine addiction. Anyone selling sweet-flavored e-cigarettes may face hefty fines or criminal charges.

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority has stated:

"E-cigarettes are addictive and harmful to health. By regulating and enforcing laws, the NVWA is helping to reduce the accessibility of tobacco and e-cigarettes to young people, thus supporting the national prevention goal of achieving a smoke-free generation by 2040."

Since the ban took effect in 2024, authorities have confiscated a total of 265,000 illegal e-cigarettes.

According to reports, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (IATA code: AMS) is the main international airport in the Netherlands and a key hub for air traffic in Europe. In Europe, Schiphol Airport is the third busiest airport.
