【2Firsts News Flash】According to a report by Locals on July 23rd, Philip Morris International (PMI) announced in its 2024 sustainability report that the company is expanding recycling and reusing projects to accelerate its circular economy strategy and reduce the environmental impact of electronic waste.
Since 2021, PMI has successfully repaired approximately 867,000 heated tobacco devices and reintroduced them into the market. The company's goal is to repair no fewer than 1 million heated tobacco devices by the end of 2025.
Currently, the Iluma series of refurbished devices has been launched on the Moldovan market. These devices come from a consumer recycling program carried out in partnership between PMI and the environmental platform Colectez.eu. Devices returned by users will undergo comprehensive testing and technical diagnosis at specialized centers and will have key components replaced if necessary (such as batteries and shells) in order to restore them to their original functionality and appearance standards.
After undergoing rigorous quality inspections, these devices will be relaunched with a "refurbished product" label, offering a user experience comparable to new devices.
The irreparable devices will be sent to professional recycling centers in Hungary and Japan for dismantling and material reuse.
