Philippine Health Department Supports Proposal to Ban E-Cigarettes Countrywide
DOH fully supports Finance Minister Ralph Recto's proposal to ban disposable e-cigarettes in the Philippines, citing health risks.

According to the Filipino media outlet Malaya, the Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines recently stated its full support for Finance Secretary Ralph Recto's proposal to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes within the country. Additionally, the DOH expressed that it would be even more beneficial to completely ban all e-cigarette products domestically in addition to the proposed ban on disposable e-cigarettes.

The Department of Health stated, "We support the proposal by the Minister of Finance to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes and e-cigarette products." The department further clarified, "The Minister of Finance has only proposed banning disposable e-cigarettes, but we believe all e-cigarettes should be banned."

The Ministry of Health states that disposable e-cigarettes and other e-cigarette products pose significant health risks, including vaping-related lung injuries (EVALI), nicotine addiction, and various respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. It points out that the plastic and batteries used in disposable e-cigarettes are not easily recyclable or biodegradable.

The Ministry of Health explains that "these projects may lead to electronic waste, which contains harmful chemicals that can seep into the soil and water sources, posing risks to the environment and public health."

Previously, Philippines Finance Minister Ricto had stated that they were exploring the possibility of banning disposable e-cigarettes domestically due to issues such as unregulated sales, tax evasion, and significant health risks.
