Survey: 64% of Russian smokers want to quit habit
64% of Russian smokers want to quit, with majority hoping to switch to heated tobacco or e-cigarette products, survey finds.

According to a report by TASS on August 12th, a survey by the All-Russia Public Opinion Research Center (ВЦИОМ) found that 64% of regular cigarette smokers expressed a desire to quit this habit.

A survey has shown that the majority of smokers surveyed, regardless of the type of tobacco or nicotine product they use, want to quit smoking. Among conventional cigarette smokers, 64% expressed some level of desire to quit smoking. This figure was 62% among e-cigarette users and 56% among users of heated tobacco devices.

Currently, only 31% of Russians use regular cigarettes, heated tobacco, or e-cigarettes. Among them, 24% use regular cigarettes, 9% use e-cigarettes, and 2% use heated tobacco devices. Respondents stated that the main reasons they started smoking were influence from friends (55%), curiosity (29%), and pressure (25%).

One of the main reasons for switching to heated tobacco and e-cigarettes is the lack of tobacco smell (43% and 53%), the desire to quit regular cigarettes (both at 40%), and the perception of less health risks (29% among heated tobacco consumers and 19% among e-cigarette consumers) are commonly cited.

The investigation revealed that 47% of regular cigarette smokers reported feeling physically uncomfortable due to smoking, while 46% of smokers claimed to have no noticeable effects. Approximately 7% of the respondents were uncertain about the health impacts of smoking. Among those who use heated tobacco and e-cigarettes, 48% and 56% respectively did not experience any physical abnormalities, 29% and 24% felt discomfort, and 23% and 20% were unsure whether there were any effects.

South Korea's Tax Policy on Solid Nicotine Vapes Sparks Debate as Tobacco Industry Urges Urgent Regulation of Synthetic Nicotine
South Korea’s low tax on solid nicotine vapes has raised concerns over tax avoidance, but industry players note the products are already regulated and have minimal market share.
