Tobacco Consumption Decreasing, Youth Still Main Consumers: WHO Report
Global tobacco consumption is declining, but young people remain the main consumers, according to new data from the WHO.

According to a report by Aleph News on January 20, the latest data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows a declining trend in global tobacco consumption, with young people still being the primary consumers of tobacco products.

According to a study on the prevalence of smoking from 2000 to 2030, despite a decrease in tobacco consumption in 150 countries worldwide, the issue of smoking remains grave, resulting in over eight million deaths annually.

The World Health Organization emphasizes that countries should further enhance their efforts in tobacco control, particularly in intensifying smoking prevention education for young people. In the face of this global challenge, strengthening tobacco regulation and education is crucial in reducing the health risks and death cases caused by smoking.

The report highlights that in order to effectively address this issue, the World Health Organization is urging countries to take stronger measures, including but not limited to enhancing regulations, increasing tobacco taxes, banning advertising, and promoting more comprehensive youth smoking prevention education programs.

UPC Court of Appeal refuses to revive VMR’s European vape patent, upholding lack of inventiveness
The Unified Patent Court’s Court of Appeal declined on Dec. 29 to revive a European patent held by VMR Products LLC, upholding a finding that the patent is not inventive over earlier devices. The decision said adding a window in the vape’s outer shell to reveal the internal cartridge holding vape liquid was an obvious, routine adaptation based on an earlier U.S. patent and general knowledge.

Echo Guo: The Accumulating Risks Behind the Surge in Chinese Vape Exports to the U.S.
Chinese vape exports to the U.S. jumped from about 2.2 million kg in June to 14.8 million kg in October 2025, despite tougher enforcement, the Washington Examiner reported. 2Firsts finds the surge reflects delayed bulk shipments, not demand recovery. With U.S. inventory exceeding 160 million devices and distributors paying ~10% upfront, cash-flow stress has shifted to Chinese manufacturers, and discounted stock is spilling into other markets.
