Turkey Seizes Record Number of E-cigarettes and Cocaine
Turkey successfully seized 275,520 e-cigarettes and 35.2 kg of cocaine in a raid at Istanbul's Ambarlı port, according to Turkey's Mynet media.

According to a report by Turkish media outlet Mynet on November 28th, the Turkish Ministry of Commerce successfully seized 275,520 e-cigarettes and 35.2 kilograms of cocaine in an operation at Ambarlı Port in Istanbul.

Turkish Minister of Commerce, Ömer Bolat, praised the recent e-cigarette seizure as the largest in the country's history, according to a statement.

 

He emphasized that as the Ministry of Commerce, they will continue to combat those who attempt to harm public health and damage the national economy, and they will never give the green light to illegal trade and drugs.

As cigarette markets face long-term pressure, major tobacco companies are increasingly turning to nicotine pouches in search of growth beyond combustible tobacco. Reuters has examined whether nicotine pouches can become the next strategic growth platform for companies including Philip Morris International, British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco. PMI strengthened its position through the acquisition of Swedish Match and its ZYN brand, while BAT and JTI continue expanding their own nicotine pouch portfolios. Public information shows that the product has gradually entered several European markets, including Spain, Portugal and Germany, and was officially introduced in Romania in July 2026. The launch highlights JTI’s efforts to explore broader nicotine consumable formats beyond traditional tobacco-based sticks.
