Turkey Seizes Record Number of E-cigarettes and Cocaine

Turkey successfully seized 275,520 e-cigarettes and 35.2 kg of cocaine in a raid at Istanbul's Ambarlı port, according to Turkey's Mynet media.

According to a report by Turkish media outlet Mynet on November 28th, the Turkish Ministry of Commerce successfully seized 275,520 e-cigarettes and 35.2 kilograms of cocaine in an operation at Ambarlı Port in Istanbul.

Turkish Minister of Commerce, Ömer Bolat, praised the recent e-cigarette seizure as the largest in the country's history, according to a statement.

He emphasized that as the Ministry of Commerce, they will continue to combat those who attempt to harm public health and damage the national economy, and they will never give the green light to illegal trade and drugs.

Hounslow Crackdown Seizes £33,000 of Illegal Vapes and Combustible Cigarettes

Hounslow Council’s Trading Standards team, working with Metropolitan Police units, conducted test purchases across the borough and found seven premises selling illegal tobacco. Subsequent raids at 16 premises in Chiswick, Feltham and Hounslow High Street seized 4,859 illegal vapes (≈£30,000), 3,806 combustible cigarettes (≈£3,000), 16kg of shisha and 11kg of chewing tobacco. Offences included oversized tanks, over-strength nicotine, and unregistered products.

BAT expands facial age-estimation checks: over 600 stores covered in Europe, targeting 1,000 by year-end

BAT has partnered with the Channel Islands Co-operative Society and Yoti to pilot facial age estimation in 10 Coop stores across Jersey. Customers scan a QR code and take a selfie; the system instantly deletes the image and returns only a yes/no against a minimum age threshold (set at 20) for the pilot. BAT already uses Yoti in 600+ stores across Europe and plans to reach 1,000 by year-end.
