Turkey Seizes Record Number of E-cigarettes and Cocaine
Turkey successfully seized 275,520 e-cigarettes and 35.2 kg of cocaine in a raid at Istanbul's Ambarlı port, according to Turkey's Mynet media.

According to a report by Turkish media outlet Mynet on November 28th, the Turkish Ministry of Commerce successfully seized 275,520 e-cigarettes and 35.2 kilograms of cocaine in an operation at Ambarlı Port in Istanbul.

Turkish Minister of Commerce, Ömer Bolat, praised the recent e-cigarette seizure as the largest in the country's history, according to a statement.

 

He emphasized that as the Ministry of Commerce, they will continue to combat those who attempt to harm public health and damage the national economy, and they will never give the green light to illegal trade and drugs.

A new Swedish study found oral mucosal lesions in 79% of examined nicotine pouch users and 89% of tobacco-derived snus users, with different tissue-response patterns between the two categories. For manufacturers and regulators, the findings shift attention toward product formulation, flavouring, pouch materials and local oral exposure, not only whether a product contains tobacco. The study found no higher prevalence of caries or periodontal disease, but it could not establish causality, long-term outcomes or differences between individual products or designs.

Arizona's First Things First is pushing for an excise tax equal to 50% of the retail price of vaping products, estimating that the measure could generate about $100 million annually. The agency says its tobacco-tax revenue has fallen 47% from 2008 levels. Arizona has attempted to broaden its nicotine tax base in each of the past two years: a 2025 bill proposed a 50% wholesale-price tax, while a 2026 measure shifted to a 50% retail-price tax covering alternative nicotine products and vapor products.
