Tower Hamlets shop fined for selling e-cigarette to 14-year-old in a test operation by local trading standards.

According to reports from Tower Hamlets, a shop assistant at a store in the UK sold an e-cigarette to a 14-year-old teenager without verifying his identity. However, this was actually part of a test operation conducted by the local trading standards authority, resulting in fines being imposed on both the shop assistant and the store manager.

 

The salesperson was fined £120, with an additional £48 victim surcharge and £100 in costs. The company was fined £382, with an additional surcharge of £153 and costs of £400. The company's director, Sheikh Shahinur Rahman, was fined £526, with a victim surcharge of £210 and costs of £200.

 

The Trading Standards Bureau of the Tower Hamlets district frequently carries out operations that involve allowing children to attempt to purchase age-restricted products such as tobacco, knives, and alcohol. Tower Hamlets district council spokesperson, Cllr Abu Talha Chowdhury, stated:

 

Our parliament is making efforts to raise awareness about the risks of underage e-cigarette use and to prevent the illegal sale of e-cigarettes.
