US Cancer Society Worried About Increasing Popularity of Nicotine Pouches
The American Cancer Society expresses concern over the increasing popularity of nicotine pouches in the US.

The American Cancer Society is becoming increasingly concerned about the growing popularity of nicotine pouches.

According to a new study published in the JAMA Network Open, overall sales of nicotine pouches in the United States increased from 2019 to 2022. The data also reveals that sales of products with the highest limit of 8 milligrams of nicotine concentration grew faster than those with lower concentration levels.

We have found that nicotine is a highly addictive substance. The increasing popularity of nicotine pouches could lead to children discovering these products and increase the risk of developing nicotine addiction," said Nigar Nargis, Senior Scientific Director of Tobacco Control Research for the American Cancer Society and lead author of the study. The study, mentioned in a statement, calls for a public health campaign to warn about the potential negative health consequences of nicotine pouches.

The study authors analyzed sales data for four nicotine pouch brands (Zyn, Rogue, On!, and Velo) at 2,182 local trading areas across 48 states and Washington, D.C., including weekly fixed purchase point sales data from August 2019 to March 2022.

According to the results, the overall sales increased from 126.06 million units from August 2019 to December 2019, to 808.14 million units from January 2022 to March 2022.

During the study period, Zyn products led total sales at 58.8%, followed by On products at 24.6%, Velo products at 12.1%, and Rogue products at 4.8%. Zyn product sales peaked in September 2021 and saw a larger increase from October 2021 to March 2022 compared to other brands. However, Rogue products experienced a higher growth rate in sales than any other brand.

New E-Cigarette Law Takes Effect in Texas in September: Complete Ban on Marijuana Vape Sales, Violators Face Up to One Year in Prison
Starting September 1st, Texas banned the sale of THC-containing e-cigarettes. Violators face up to $4,000 in fines and one year in jail. Supporters say it helps keep marijuana vapes out of teens' hands. But opponents fear it will push people to dangerous alternatives. Some businesses, like Gruene Botanicals, argue that these vapes are important for treating chronic pain and PTSD, and a total ban could lead consumers to the black market.
