Vermont Governor Vetoes Ban on Flavored Tobacco and E-cigarettes

Vermont Governor Phil Scott vetoed a bill banning flavored tobacco and e-cigarette sales, sparking debate on youth addiction prevention.

According to a report from Vermont Public on April 3rd, Governor Phil Scott of Vermont vetoed a bill that would have banned the sale of flavored tobacco and e-cigarette products in the state of Vermont.

Supporters of the bill claim that it will help prevent young people from becoming addicted to tobacco. However, the governor has called the bill "hypocritical" because Vermont allows the sale of flavored alcohol and marijuana products.

He announced some details of the veto letter at a press conference in Montpellier.

I have found that when policies have such contradictions, people will lose trust in the government because they defy common sense. Purely from a practical standpoint, these products will continue to be widely sold across the river in New Hampshire through online sales.

The proponents of the bill announced that they will be attempting to gather enough votes in the coming weeks to overturn Scott's veto. However, the bill did not receive enough votes in either the House or the Senate to override the veto.
