According to a report on November 15th by Baotintuc news, Nguyen Quang Huy, Deputy Director of the Market Management Department in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, stated in a media interview that in recent years, new tobacco products such as e-cigarettes have become popular on the market in Ho Chi Minh City. However, these products have not obtained official permission for sale in the Vietnamese market and are being openly sold on personal accounts, groups, and other platforms, attracting a significant number of students and young people.
Previously, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health issued a warning stating that these new types of tobacco products pose severe health hazards to both smokers and those around them, leading to various illnesses and even increasing the risk of cancer.
Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department has instructed market management teams to strengthen inspections and market management in response to the threat posed by these products to public health. They are cracking down severely on violations related to the transportation, purchase, sale, and operation of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products in order to promptly detect and address such infringements.
According to statistics, from 2022 until October 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department has examined and resolved 90 cases of violations, resulting in fines exceeding 1.4 billion Vietnamese dong (approximately 420,000 USD) and the destruction of over 15,000 e-cigarette products and accessories worth around 2.8 billion Vietnamese dong (approximately 840,000 RMB).
