On December 10th, the official website of the Welsh government announced that the Welsh Parliament (Senedd) passed a vote to introduce the 2024 Environmental Protection (Disposable E-cigarette) (Wales) Regulations, prohibiting the supply of disposable e-cigarettes in Wales.
According to the results of the parliamentary vote, Welsh Deputy First Minister and Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs Huw Irranca-Davies stated that this marks an important step forward in eliminating the disposable culture and its environmental impact.
The regulation will come into effect on June 1, 2025. The Welsh government has collaborated with the UK government and other local governments to ensure that the ban is implemented simultaneously across all regions. Starting from June 1, 2025, any form of disposable e-cigarette will not be allowed to be sold or given away for free.
The Welsh government is reminding businesses to contact suppliers immediately to order alternatives and to begin training employees and informing customers. Businesses also need to arrange for the safe disposal of disposable e-cigarettes for customers.
