Wicklow Candidate Calls for Ban on Disposable e-Cigarettes
Wicklow candidate Graham Richmond calls for ban on disposable e-cigarettes at Fine Gael Ard Fheis, gaining party support.

According to a report by Independent on April 15th, Graham Richmond, a candidate running in Wicklow, Ireland, called for a ban on disposable e-cigarettes at the Fine Gael Ard Fheis.

 

The proposal he put forward was passed at the meeting, and he called on the party to incorporate this issue into government policy considerations.

 

Graham expressed his appreciation for the decision to ban the sale of e-cigarettes to those under 18, but believes further steps should be taken, such as following New Zealand's example and completely banning disposable e-cigarettes. His proposal was fully approved at the recent party conference, and he looks forward to working with the new Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris to turn this proposal into legislative reality.

Philip Morris International (PMI) has introduced VEEV inPrime, the next-generation closed-system vape platform featuring the new AdvanceVape Induction System™. UAE Sets Dh1-Per-ml Minimum Excise Price for Vape Liquids From Sept. 1 While Keeping 100% Tax Rate
The UAE Ministry of Finance will introduce a minimum excise price for e-liquids used in vaping and electronic smoking devices from September 1, 2026. The minimum excise price will be set at AED 1 per millilitre. The existing 100% excise tax rate will continue to apply to tobacco and electronic smoking products. The measure changes the minimum taxable base rather than the tax rate, with the UAE government saying it aims to establish unified tax standards, improve market compliance and prevent pricing loopholes.

China Tobacco Hubei explores staged nicotine pouch delivery, using dynamic membranes to slow early release and gradient particles to sustain later delivery
China Tobacco Hubei Industrial Co., Ltd. disclosed several oral nicotine-related patent applications in August 2026, including two that approach staged nicotine release from different directions. One uses a high-viscosity membrane that forms inside the pouch after contact with saliva to slow rapid early release, while the other uses gradient particles with a faster-disintegrating outer layer and a slower core to create a fast-to-sustained release profile. EU Trade Department Faces Scrutiny Over Contacts With Tobacco Industry
European Ombudswoman Teresa Anjinho has opened an inquiry into how the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade handles interactions with the tobacco industry. The case follows a complaint from a civil society organisation that alleges regular, unnecessary and non-transparent contacts between DG TRADE and tobacco industry representatives, raising questions over compliance with the EU’s obligations under the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The inquiry remains ongoing, and the Ombudswoman has not reached any finding of maladministration.
