Advocacy for Complete Ban on E-Cigarettes in Shchyolkovo Region
The chief external drug expert of the Ministry of Health in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, strongly supports a total ban on e-cigarettes.

According to a report by Russian media outlet Uralpolit on January 10th, Oleg Zabrodin, the leading external drug expert at the Ministry of Health in Sverdlovsk Oblast, expressed his firm support for a complete ban on e-cigarettes in a recent national speech. This statement was made after he shared his personal views during an appearance on the "Focus" program on OTV-Yekaterinburg channel.

According to Dr. Zabroding, e-cigarettes have become extremely popular among children in the region, partly replacing low-alcohol drinks. It is worth noting that these electronic devices are considered dangerous due to their content of ethylene glycol, which may pose various health risks and infections.

Furthermore, considering that an e-cigarette is typically used by multiple individuals, this device can also serve as a potential medium for spreading various infections.

Dr. Zabroding asserts that he believes e-cigarettes will soon phase out of the market. This perspective is based on two main reasons: firstly, these devices are set to face a complete ban, and secondly, the cost of using e-cigarettes is exorbitant.

In order to strengthen the regulation of e-cigarette sales, Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova has entrusted the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Supervision Agency to enhance relevant measures. The supervisory agency will now report monthly on any violations discovered during inspections.

This measure is aimed at addressing the growing issue of e-cigarette spread in the region, particularly its misuse among minors. Experts overwhelmingly believe that this is crucial to safeguarding public health and safety.

It also extends Helix’s authorized portfolio from on! PLUS to the earlier on! line. Yet all FDA-authorized nicotine pouches still come from subsidiaries of PMI or Altria, underscoring how concentrated U.S. regulatory access remains.

Malaysia’s government has withdrawn its appeal against a High Court ruling concerning the regulatory status of liquid nicotine used in vape and e-cigarette products, according to reports by New Straits Times, Free Malaysia Today and CodeBlue on August 18, 2026. The Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled on May 15 that the government’s decision to remove liquid nicotine from the scheduled poisons list under the Poisons Act 1952 was irrational and made without proper consultation with the Poisons Board. The withdrawal ends the government’s appeal process, while the future regulatory framework for nicotine vape products remains under discussion.
