Arrests Made in Brazil for E-cigarette and Currency Exchange Crimes

14 currency exchange and e-cigarette vendors were arrested in Itajai, Brazil during a security operation.

According to a report by Grupo ND on January 5th, 14 currency exchange and e-cigarette traders were arrested in a security operation in Itararé, Brazil.

This operation was a coordinated effort between the Itaorioi Criminal Investigation Department, the Gaming and Entertainment Department, and the Itaorioi City Guard. It took place last Wednesday (January 3rd) at bars and other locations on the northern beaches.

In the afternoon operation, two men were arrested and immediately charged with consumer-related offenses for selling e-cigarettes outside a bar. Simultaneously, at the concert venue near the nightclub, an exchange merchant's operation team was discovered, and 11 members were immediately charged for alleged involvement in a criminal organization and violating public economic regulations.

This operation highlights that e-cigarettes are prohibited in Brazil by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), as they are deemed harmful to health, and their sale is considered a crime.
