Australian Border Force Discovers Illegal Import of Disposables

Australian Border Force (ABF) officials discovered 2.7 tons of disposable e-cigarettes falsely declared as clothing items, valued at $540,000.

According to miragenews, on March 15th, officials from the Australian Border Force (ABF) discovered a shipment of products declared as small clothing items during a routine inspection of air cargo. Upon inspection, officials found approximately 2.7 tons of disposable e-cigarette products, equivalent to around 18,000 disposable e-cigarettes, with an estimated value of about 540,000 Australian dollars (350,000 US dollars).

These items will be destroyed in the coming weeks, as an investigation into the source of these goods and the expected recipients is currently ongoing.

From January 1 to February 29, 2024, the Australian Border Force, Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration, and various state health departments collaborated to seize approximately 350,000 e-cigarettes.

Australia will ban the importation of disposable e-cigarettes starting from January 1, 2024. This ban will be extended to all non-therapeutic e-cigarettes from March 1, 2024.
