According to Unsertirol24 on June 26th, the city council of Bolzano, Italy has approved a proposal put forth by Team K to implement a comprehensive smoking ban at the Lido in Bolzano (public pool area). This ban aims to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and promote a healthier lifestyle, with smoking only permitted in specifically designated areas.
The Lido in Bolzano (public pool area) was not considered a sports facility, so a comprehensive smoking ban was not previously enforced, which could easily lead to harmful secondhand smoke, especially in high tourist volumes.
Team K city councilor Matthias Cologna stated,
Protecting the public from the dangers of secondhand smoke is extremely important, especially in environments where there are many children and minors.
This decision fills a gap in public restroom regulations while also prohibiting the use of smoking, e-cigarettes, and heated tobacco products.
The bill received support from a majority of lawmakers across party lines, with only two votes in opposition.
The Bolzano city government will collaborate with Lido to jointly implement a smoking ban and establish designated smoking areas.
