According to a report from 24chasa on April 16th, the city of Turin in Italy has implemented a ban on smoking in public places, following in the footsteps of several other Italian cities such as Milan.
The new regulation will prohibit smoking in public places within 5 meters of others, including tobacco and e-cigarettes, unless explicit permission is granted by those present.
In addition, the new regulation states that smoking is not allowed in public places such as bus or tram stops, outdoor dining tables, parks and gardens, and public gatherings like protests. Offenders will face a fine of 100 euros. The smoking ban regulation has been approved by the city government.
Although there is no nationwide smoking ban in Italy, various local governments have implemented their own regulations. The smoking ban in Milan came into effect in 2021, and Modena has also introduced similar regulations.
