Brazil Police Seize $85,000 in Illegal E-Cigarettes, Including OXBAR and IGNITE Brands

Brazilian police in one state have seized more than 3,000 illegal e-cigarette products worth $85,000, involving brands such as OXBAR and IGNITE. This state ranks second in Brazil for both e-cigarette consumption and seizures.

According to the Brazilian National Post Office, on November 28th, the Special Police Station for Consumer Protection (DECON) and the Special Police Station for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (DEPCA) in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, conducted a joint operation in four districts of the city and seized over 3,000 illegal e-cigarette products.

Police arrested 6 suspects and seized a total of 730 e-cigarette accessories, 520 bottles of "e-liquid", 239 packets of flavored tobacco, and 65 boxes of imported rolling paper without legal information. The confiscated products involved multiple e-cigarette brands such as "OXBAR" and "IGNITE". According to the Consumer Protection Agency of Mato Grosso do Sul (PROCON/MS), the market value of the illegal products seized is approximately 500,000 Brazilian reais (8.5 million US dollars).

Data from surveys conducted between 2018 and 2023 show that Mato Grosso state is the second largest e-cigarette consumption area in Brazil, with 4% of the surveyed population (approximately 31,000 people) using e-cigarettes. The state also ranks second in tobacco seizures, following only Parana state.
