【2Firsts news flash】According to PPNews on July 31, the police in the southern state of Parana, Brazil, successfully arrested a couple suspected of illegally storing and selling e-cigarettes in the area.

The investigation began in April 2025 when a mother reported that her son had purchased an e-cigarette at a convenience store. The information was then passed on to the Department of Safety and eventually referred to the police for further investigation.

During the search, authorities discovered that the owner of the store had hidden 134 e-cigarette devices in various locations within the shop. They also found an unregistered .32 caliber firearm on the premises.

Immediately after, the police arrived at another commercial location related to the subject of the investigation and found that the suspect's partner had hidden 154 identical products in the adjacent property. The woman was eventually located and admitted to attempting to conceal the e-cigarettes.

A total of 288 e-cigarette devices were seized. According to the regulations of the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency, the sale of these devices is illegal.

Based on the facts currently known, the police have brought this couple back to the police station. The man is being charged with violating Article 278 of the Brazilian Penal Code (selling harmful substances) and Article 12 of Law 10.826/2003 (illegally owning firearms). The woman is being charged with endangering public health.

The police emphasize that, in accordance with regulations from the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency, the sale of e-cigarettes is prohibited nationwide. Selling or supplying these products to minors is considered a crime under the Child and Adolescent Statute, and those responsible will be held criminally accountable. The investigation is still ongoing, with the aim of identifying other selling points and potential suspects.
