Bulgaria Parliament Amendments on E-cigarette Ban Proposal
Bulgaria parliament revises e-cigarette ban proposal to only include disposable products, sparking debate on tobacco law amendments.

According to a report by Btvnovinite on February 25, a proposed comprehensive ban on e-cigarettes that was initially passed on first reading in the Bulgarian Parliament has been modified. The current focus of discussion is now on only banning disposable e-cigarette products.

During a roundtable discussion at a national conference, officials deliberated on proposed amendments to the Tobacco Products Act. The proposal includes a ban on flavored e-cigarettes and suggestions to expand regulatory agencies' authority.

Kostadin Angelov, Chairman of the National Parliament Health Committee, stated, "Our primary goal is to achieve a effective nationwide ban on e-cigarettes. However, we recognize that if implemented in the current manner, it may take two to three years to notify the legislation, so there will be no immediate changes at the national level.

The European e-cigarette industry association has warned that if disposable e-cigarettes are now banned, the rate of smuggling will at least double or triple. If flavors are banned in e-cigarettes, the rate of smuggling could increase to five or six times the current amount.

FDA Tobacco Center Pushes Review-Efficiency Statement After Commissioner’s Exit
FDA CTP issued a May 7 statement on accelerating product review and improving PMTA efficiency, but did not push it via official X and newsletter until May 13, one day after FDA Commissioner Marty Makary’s resignation was confirmed. FDA has not explained the delay, and no public evidence links it directly to the leadership change. The timing is notable given CTP’s usual 24-hour distribution practice.
