An investigation by the Daily Mail found that the largest disposable e-cigarette brand Elfbar's "600" product was found to have 50% higher nicotine content than the allowed limit.

Current regulations in the UK state that disposable e-cigarettes should not have a nicotine concentration higher than 2% and should not exceed 2ml in volume.

The Mail is urging the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to take this seriously.

Elfbar initially questioned the investigation process and suggested that the product might be fake, but later a spokesperson for the brand stated that "some batches of Elfbar 600 products in the UK were overfilled with e-liquid."

On February 5, Elfbar issued a public apology and admitted to "unintentionally" violating the law. The product was taken off the shelves of Tesco, the largest chain in the UK with 2819 stores.

Morrisons, another UK supermarket giant, has launched an investigation on the product. It is reported that the Elfbar 600 product sells 2.5 million products per week in the UK, accounting for two-thirds of all disposable product sales.
