Malaysian state fines 415 stores under new tobacco control rules
Johor, Malaysia, inspected 4,275 stores under new tobacco rules, issuing 415 notices for underage smoking and illegal cigarette sales violations.

Malaysia's Health Department in Johor has inspected 4,275 shops and issued 415 violation notices since the implementation of the Public Health Smoking Control Products Regulations 2024 (Regulation 852), according to Utusan on November 1.

Chairman of the State Health and Environment Committee, Ling Tian Soon, said that of the 403 notices issued, they were for violations of smoking in non-smoking areas. In addition, 9 notices were issued for underage smoking violations, two cases of shop owners encouraging smoking, and one case of selling cigarettes to minors.

Lin Tianshun pointed out that tobacco retailers and shop owners must comply with the Ministry of Health's regulations within six months by installing sealed cabinets to prevent the public display of tobacco products and strictly adhere to the requirements of non-public advertising.
