Future of UK E-cig Market: Pod System Brands Capitalizing on Disposable Ban
UK Government announces a ban on disposable e-cigarettes, leading to a shift towards pod system products in the market.

After the UK government announced a complete ban on the sale of disposable e-cigarettes and imposed restrictions on the flavors of refillable e-cigarettes, will the UK market shift towards pod system products? Which brands that primarily focus on disposable e-cigarettes are already positioning themselves in the pod system track? 2FIRSTS has compiled a list of disposable e-cigarette brands in the UK that are simultaneously embracing the pod system trend.

The UK smoking action group, ASH, released a report in August 2023 ranking three different categories of e-cigarettes in the country. The data was obtained from a survey conducted by the statistical research firm, YouGov. YouGov uses online methods for market research and public opinion polls, collecting responses from invited internet users and weighting them based on demographic information.

Its statistical data shows:

  • The most popular disposable e-cigarettes are Elf Bar 600 (55%), Lost Mary BM500 (23%), Crystal Bar (16%), Elux Legend Mini (13%), and Geek Bar (11%).
  • The preferred pod system brands are Vuse (23%), Juul (17%), and Elf Bar Mate (13%).
  • As for open system brands, Aspire (18%), Smok (17%), Innokin (14%), and GeekVape (10%) are the most popular choices.

However, before the UK government banned disposable e-cigarettes, brands such as ELFBAR, Lost Mary, SKE, and Elux had already positioned themselves in the pod system market. These disposable brands' interchangeable cartridge products were even ranked high on the best-selling charts of online e-cigarette stores in the UK.
