Georgia Legislators Propose to Create House Study Committee on Vape Products
Georgia legislators propose resolution to create a new study committee on vapor products safety and consumer protection.

According to a report from the US media Daily Citizen on March 1st, two local lawmakers in Georgia, along with four other Republicans, have introduced a House resolution aimed at establishing a new study committee on the safety and consumer protection of vaping products. House Resolution 1283 has received support from Representative Kasey Carpenter of the Fourth District and Representative Jason Ridley of the Sixth District.

The resolution was submitted to the Georgian Parliament on February 27th. The resolution states:

In the aerosol product industry, there is currently no consumer safety and consumption product catalog that has been reviewed and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Further research is needed on consumer safety and consumption issues. In addition, further research is needed on the safety issues of refillable aerosol products produced by small businesses within the aerosol industry.

The resolution further added:

A study is needed to develop potential legislation or other actions to help prevent incidents that harm or injure consumers in the vaping industry and to protect the health and safety of those who use these products.

The proposed House Study Committee will be composed of five Georgia House members appointed by the Speaker of the House. "If the committee adopts any specific investigative findings or recommendations, including recommendations for proposed legislation, the chairperson shall submit a report by the expiration date set forth in this resolution. If the report has not been submitted by the expiration date set forth in this resolution, it shall not be submitted unless approved by a majority vote of the committee's statutory members."

According to the resolution, the committee established will officially dissolve on December 1st of this year.

Lastly, the resolution stated, "It is crucial to research all issues related to e-cigarettes, e-liquids, and other nicotine aerosol products before the federal government imposes full regulation on small business manufacturers, while also promoting economic development in the state."

In addition, the resolution is supported by representatives James Collins of the 71st district, Rick Jasperse of the 11th district, Alan Powell of the 33rd district, and Dale Washburn of the 144th district.
