German Federal States Support Amendment to Restrict Disposable E-Cigarettes
Most German federal states support amending the ElektroG to restrict disposable e-cigarette use, backed by various associations and NGOs.

According to a report by Residuos Profesional on December 12th, most representatives from the German federal states have recently expressed support for amendments to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) to restrict the use of disposable e-cigarettes.

This ban has received support from the German Waste Management, Water and Recycling Industry Federation (BDE), as well as health associations and non-governmental organizations. BDE President Anja Siegesmund said that the decision by the Federal Council was "long overdue." She pointed out that disposable e-cigarettes, as single-use products, quickly become waste after use, causing environmental pollution and even accidents. She urged the government to ban disposable e-cigarettes as soon as possible.

However, the proposal for a complete ban on disposable e-cigarettes must be debated in the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) and receive a majority vote, including any amendments put forth by the Federal Senate.

Sigismund stated that

The Electronics and Electrical Equipment Act alone cannot solve the significant issue of battery-induced fires in the waste management industry, but it is a crucial first step in the right direction. Therefore, members of the German Federal Parliament should discuss and vote in favor of a nationwide ban on this matter in December.
