Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joins a 19-state coalition supporting FDA in effort to block flavored e-cigarette sales across states.

According to a report by Hoodline on September 4th, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has joined a coalition of 19 states in filing an amicus brief in support of the FDA's position to prevent the interstate sale of certain flavored e-cigarette products.

I will continue to work with advocates, legislators, and state and federal regulatory agencies to develop policies to protect minors from the harms of e-cigarettes and other addictive tobacco products.

The Supreme Court is facing a crucial decision in the case of FDA v. Wages and White Lion Investments LLC. In January 2024, a ruling by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals supported these two companies, but the Alliance for Health is calling on the Supreme Court to overturn this decision. They emphasize that flavored e-cigarettes are enticing young people and are associated with increased cancer risk and respiratory system diseases. The Alliance cites a study where nearly 90% of teenage e-cigarette users opt for these flavored products.

Last year, the Attorney General reached a $4.62 billion settlement agreement with Juul Labs, aimed at curbing the influence of this tobacco giant. The list of states supporting Raúl is growing, from Arizona to Vermont.
