Illinois House Passes Bill to Ban E-cigarette Advertising and Promotion
Illinois House passes bill banning e-cigarette advertising to prevent confusion with common items, addressing growing youth addiction concerns.

According to a report by WAND TV network on May 21, the Illinois State House passed a bill that prohibits e-cigarette companies from advertising, marketing, or promoting e-cigarettes, as it could potentially lead parents, teachers, or others to mistakenly believe that these devices are common items.

Members of the Democratic and Republican parties often hear teachers complaining about students bringing e-cigarettes that look like highlighters, erasers, or even toys into school.

Democratic Senator Julie Morrison stated, "Young people have told me that they started using these devices because they saw their friends using them at parties and thought it was fun and everyone was using them. But it can become addictive, which is what we are working to prevent.

The enforcement of this legislation will be overseen by the Illinois Department of Revenue, Secretary of State, and local law enforcement agencies. The Senate Bill 2662, proposed by the Senate, was unanimously passed in the House and is now being sent back to the Senate for further review due to technical amendments.
