Illinois to enforce new e-cigarette restrictions starting January 1, 2025, banning deceptive marketing tactics targeting children.

According to a report from Newsbug on December 23rd, a new law will take effect in Illinois, USA on January 1, 2025, imposing more restrictions on the use of e-cigarettes.

The new law prohibits advertising, marketing, or promoting e-cigarettes in a way that could potentially lead others to mistake them for other items. State Senator Julie Morrison pointed out that some e-cigarettes are designed to look like school supplies, such as highlighters, erasers, and pencil sharpeners.

This law will prevent tobacco companies from deceiving educators and guardians responsible for protecting children's safety.

Elizabeth Hicks, from the Consumer Choice Center, has stated that the crackdown on e-cigarettes could potentially push some individuals back to traditional cigarettes, resulting in an additional burden on taxpayers.

In Illinois, annual medical costs related to smoking-related diseases exceed $2 billion, making it one of the highest in the nation.

In addition, e-cigarettes purchased through mail, online, or other remote sales methods are prohibited from being shipped to any other person within the state, aside from distributors or retailers.
