Indonesia Combats Illegal Cigarettes: Over 200,000 Seized in Central Java
Joint operation by Indonesian tax authorities and Central Java police leads to seizure of 208,160 illegal cigarettes in Jepara.

According to a report from Republika, the Central Java and Special Administrative Region Tax Offices, along with the Central Java Provincial Security Patrol, have joined forces to uncover two locations where illegal cigarettes were stored. In Jepara County, located in Central Java, law enforcement officials seized a total of 208,160 illegal cigarettes.

According to Achmad Rochief, the Director of the Central Java and special administrative region Tax Office, this operation is part of their "Crackdown on Illegal Cigarettes II" initiative.

Two illegal storage sites were found in Kedung and Kalinyamatan areas of Jepara County. Currently, all evidence has been sent to the Central Java and Special Administrative Region Tax Offices, as well as the Cilacap Tax Office for further investigation. According to Rofik, the market value of these illegal cigarettes is approximately 2.61 million Indonesian Rupiah. If the tobacco tax, consumption tax, and tobacco value-added tax are paid according to regulations, the amount of tax to be paid would be around 1.78 million Indonesian Rupiah.
