Indonesia Government Actively Promoting Smoke-Free Zones to Achieve Goals
Indonesian government actively promotes smoke-free zones, organizing an international tobacco research event to reduce smoking consumption.

According to a report from tvOnenews website, the Indonesian government is actively pushing forward with its smoke-free zone policy in order to achieve its set objectives. As a part of their efforts towards this goal, a university in Surabaya hosted the International Tobacco Research Network (ITCRN) event for 2023, which featured several prominent guests.

 

The event attracted hundreds of student activists who are against smoking, providing them with a platform for deep reflection and discussion on the latest research findings in hopes of reducing tobacco consumption and creating a healthier environment for future generations. Dr. Abdillah Ahsan, the coordinator of the Indonesia Tobacco Research Network (ITRN) and the head of the Population Institute at Febr UI, led the event, offering a comprehensive explanation of the progress of smoke-free zones in Indonesia.

 

The smoke-free zone is not just a trend but also an urgent necessity, aiming to enhance the quality of public life," he explained in detail.

 

Next up is Dr. Santi Martini, Chairperson of the Health Education Society in East Java, who discussed the progress of smoke-free zones in East Java. Their research indicates that altering tobacco tax policies did not have a significant impact on tobacco purchasing and consumption.

Philip Morris Japan (PMJ) launched the IQOS ILUMA i PRIME Ginza Limited Model Set in Tokyo on September 4, 2026, alongside the opening of IQOS Flagship Ginza, the brand’s first global flagship store. The Oasis Blue edition is limited to 1,814 individually numbered units, with the figure derived from the store’s address at Ginza 1-8-14. The set also includes two Yamanaka-nuri glasses and special packaging, priced at JPY 11,980 and sold exclusively at the Ginza flagship.

China exported $979 million of vape-related products in August 2026, up 3.3% from a year earlier but down 6.4% from July. The UK replaced the U.S. as the main source of growth: UK-bound shipments jumped 51.4% to a 2026 high of $177 million, while exports to the U.S. fell 12.4% to $339 million. Shipments to markets outside the U.S. increased 14.2%, broadening growth beyond the market that had driven July’s rebound.

Cochrane 2026 Update Adds Nine Trials, Keeps High-Certainty Finding That Nicotine E-Cigarettes Improve Quit Rates Over NRT
Cochrane’s 2026 update of its living review on electronic cigarettes for smoking cessation included 80 randomized controlled trials involving 29,861 adult smokers, with nine trials added in this update. The review retained its high-certainty conclusion that nicotine e-cigarettes increase smoking cessation rates compared with nicotine replacement therapy. In absolute terms, about 10 in 100 people using nicotine e-cigarettes may quit smoking for at least six months, compared with about 6 in 100 using NRT. The review found no clear difference in serious adverse event rates between the two groups, while longer-term safety and the relative effectiveness of newer device types remain less certain.

JUUL Purchasers Ask Ninth Circuit to Preserve Antitrust Classes in Case Over Altria’s $12.8 Billion Investment
Private antitrust litigation stemming from Altria's 2018 $12.8 billion investment for a 35% economic interest in JUUL is advancing before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Direct purchasers, indirect purchasers and indirect resellers of JUUL products filed answering briefs this week seeking to preserve class certifications granted by a California federal court in February. Altria and JUUL argue that individual consumers and large distributors differ too much in purchasing terms to remain in a single direct-purchaser class, while a separate dispute concerns whether California antitrust law can apply to indirect purchasers across 27 jurisdictions. A September trial has been put on hold during the appeal.
