Ireland Implements Strict Regulations on E-Cigarettes and Tobacco Products

Irish Mirror reports fines for selling e-cigarettes or tobacco products to children starting September 23, under new Irish law.

According to the Irish Mirror, starting from September 23rd, businesses selling e-cigarettes or tobacco products at children's events will face a fine of 2000 euros.

In March, Irish Health Minister Stephen Donnelly launched several parts of the "2023 Public Health (Tobacco and Nicotine Inhaling Products) Act," which will officially take effect on September 23. The aim of the act is to enforce stricter regulations on nicotine inhalation products and eliminate the use of tobacco products.

The new measures also prohibit the placement of advertisements for nicotine inhalation products around children's movies, on public transport vehicles, and within 200 meters of schools.

Last week, the Irish government approved Minister Donnelly's draft Public Health (Nicotine Inhaling Products) Bill, which will regulate the packaging, flavors, and retail display of e-cigarettes, as well as ban disposable e-cigarettes.

The minister stated that

I welcome the further implementation of the provisions of our 2023 law. I am drafting new tobacco control legislation, passing through both houses and implementing laws that have already been passed. The urgency is to save lives lost as a result of this deadly commercial product.

I am determined to help smokers quit smoking, prevent new smokers from emerging through the use of experimental tobacco or nicotine inhalation products, and do everything in my power to protect the health of our people, especially our children.
