According to The Star's report on September 25, the Malaysian Ministry of Health announced that the Public Health (Control of Tobacco Products) (Amendment) Regulations 2024 (Act 852) will come into effect on October 1.
The Ministry of Health stated that the bill includes provisions on registration, sales, packaging, labeling, and banning smoking in public places. The department also emphasized in a Facebook post on Tuesday evening that the rules and regulations of the bill will also cover e-cigarettes.
In May of this year, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that the enforcement of the law will be fully implemented in June.
Previously, the Ministry of Health came under criticism for its failure to implement Act 852 due to the removal of e-cigarettes and nicotine from the list of regulated substances in the Dangerous Drugs Act by the former Health Minister Zaliha Mustafa. This resulted in the inability to enforce the provision banning the sale of e-cigarettes to minors.
