Man Arrested for Selling E-Cigarettes to Students in Singapore

A man was fined $13,700 for selling e-cigarettes to students in a retail store at a shopping center in Singapore.

According to a report by Singapore's Health Sciences Authority on November 24th, a man was arrested for selling e-cigarettes to students at a retail store in the western shopping center.

A total of over 400 e-cigarettes and 350 accessories were confiscated by the Health Science Department from the individual's workplace and residence in a shopping center following a tip-off. The estimated market value of the seized stock was reported to be over 11,000 Singapore dollars. Subsequently, the e-cigarette vendor was fined 13,700 Singapore dollars (approximately 73,056 RMB).

According to a statement on the website of the Health Sciences Authority, first-time offenders who are convicted of importing, distributing, selling, or raising the price of imitation tobacco products could face fines of up to $10,000. Other imitation tobacco products include shisha, smokeless tobacco, and chewing tobacco. Those convicted may also face imprisonment for a maximum of six months, regardless of whether they are fined or not.

Repeat offenders may face a fine of $20,000, a 12-month imprisonment, or a combination of both penalties. Furthermore, buying, using, or possessing the aforementioned products could result in fines of up to $2,000, with the Health Science Authority seizing and confiscating all prohibited tobacco items.
