Man fined for smoking e-cigarette on high-speed train seat in Shanghai, endangering railway safety. Trained staff intervened.

According to a report from China News Network on May 14th, the Shanghai railway police learned that a man was caught smoking an e-cigarette in his seat on a high-speed train. Luckily, the train staff discovered and prevented this in time, thus preventing any serious consequences. Currently, the man named Tong is facing a 500 RMB fine from the Shanghai railway police for endangering railway safety.

At around 9:58 on May 13th, the Suzhou North Station police station received a report that a passenger on train G7291 was smoking an e-cigarette, posing a threat to railway safety. After the train arrived at Suzhou North Station, the police lawfully summoned the man to the police station for questioning.

According to Shanghai Railway Public Security Bureau and Shanghai Public Security Office, after investigation, a man named Tong took the G7291 train from Xuzhou to Suzhou for a business trip. Due to his smoking habit, Tong secretly smoked an e-cigarette a few times on the high-speed train. Thinking he could get away with it, Tong was quickly discovered by train staff. After being educated, Tong realized his mistake. In the end, Tong was fined 500 yuan by the Shanghai Railway Police for allegedly endangering railway safety.

According to the Railway Police, smoking is strictly prohibited on high-speed trains, including e-cigarettes, in accordance with the Regulations on Railway Safety Management. Smoking can trigger smoke alarms, leading to the train slowing down or even stopping, posing a serious threat to railway operation safety.
