Massive Smuggling Bust: Paraguayan Woman Caught with $1 Million Worth of Goods

Federal Tax Bureau and Federal Police discovered a record-breaking smuggling operation on the Friendship Bridge in Brazil.

According to Radioculturafoz, during a routine inspection of the Friendship Bridge in Brazil, the Federal Revenue Service and the Federal Police discovered the largest batch of smuggled goods in recent years. The seized items primarily consist of electronic products such as MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, watches, headphones, and e-cigarettes, with an estimated total value of one million Brazilian reais (approximately 1.44 million Chinese yuan). All of these items were found stored inside a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was a female from Paraguay, with her sister also present. The two attempted to transport contraband across the border, but were apprehended in the act and subsequently taken to the Federal Police for further proceedings.

Portugal to Tax Nicotine Pouches from 2026 at €0.065 per Gram

Portugal’s 2026 State Budget adds nicotine pouches to the IEC by inserting Article 104-D into the Excise Code’s tobacco chapter. A specific duty of €0.065/g applies from 2026, with rounding to whole grams. The Budget also defines pouches (natural nicotine, up to 12 mg, tobacco-free, oral mucosal absorption). Ireland Implements 50c per ml Tax on E-Liquids Starting Nov 1

From November 1, 2025, Ireland introduces a new E-liquid Products Tax (EPT), adding €0.50 per millilitre to all e-liquid products, including nicotine-free types. Signed into law by Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe, the measure targets youth vaping and requires suppliers to register with Revenue and pay duty at import, manufacturing, or distribution.

Russian Police Seize Over 150,000 Counterfeit E-Cigarettes Worth More Than USD 1.65 Million

Russian police in Tambov have detained a man for storing and selling unmarked e-cigarettes. Over 150,000 counterfeit e-cigarettes, cartridges, and e-liquids were seized, valued at more than 126.5 million rubles (approximately USD 1.65 million). Tests revealed that the nicotine content of the seized products exceeded the levels stated on their packaging. A criminal case has been opened under Article 171.1, Part 6 of the Russian Criminal Code.
