Michigan e-cigarette containing THC voluntarily recalled due to potential harmful ingredients; consumers urged to check specific brands for safety.

According to a report by Foxbusiness on February 11th, several e-cigarettes containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in Michigan, USA, are being voluntarily recalled due to potentially harmful ingredients. The Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) found that these e-cigarettes contain an oil component that may be harmful to the lungs.

It has been reported that the e-cigarette pods of BLOOM Classic and BLOOM Live are said to contain medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil. The affected e-cigarette brands include: Alien Jack, Blue Dream, Cereal Milk, Champagne Kush, Durban Gelato, Face Off OG, Forbidden Fruit, Green Crack, Jack Herer, Maui Wowie, Pineapple Express, Pineapple Sherbert, Rainbow Runtz, Skywalker, and White Widow.

Although MCT oil is a non-THC oil commonly found in oral supplements and naturally occurring in foods such as cheese and yogurt, media reports have suggested that inhaling this oil may potentially lead to respiratory issues.

Last fall, CRA began targeted testing of MCT oil in e-cigarettes, and is currently working with retailers to collect and dispose of these products.

In January 2025, RWB Michigan LLC and CRA voluntarily recalled e-cigarette pods of the Platinum Vape brand due to the same issue. The flavors of Platinum Vape include Garlic Cookie, Blazing Blue Cheese, Banana Candy, and Grape Valley Kush.

Authorities advise consumers to check their BLOOM e-cigarette purchased after September 1, 2024, and Platinume-cigarette purchased after March 4, to ensure they are not included in the recall. Affected products can be returned to the place of purchase or disposed of directly.
