Mini-supermarket in Wrexham closed for illegal cigarette sales
Wrexham mini-market Kalar ordered to close for three months due to illegal tobacco and e-cigarette sales.

According to Leaderlive, on February 11, 2025, Kalar Mini Market in Wrexham, Wales was ordered to close for three months by the local magistrates' court for repeatedly selling illegal cigarettes and e-cigarettes. The closure will last until April 29, 2025.

The closure order was based on an application submitted by trade standards officials, who documented in detail the shop's multiple instances of selling and being found with illegal cigarettes and e-cigarettes.

Hugh Jones, the Councilperson for Public Protection in the Rexham City Council, stated:

The use of e-cigarettes is rapidly increasing among people who have never smoked and children, which is very concerning. It is good to see the Welsh government pushing forward new legislation to control the supply of illegal e-cigarettes and tobacco, and supporting the Welsh government's goal of achieving a smoke-free Wales by 2030.
