Motion Passed: Iring Council Calls for Complete Ban on Disposables in 2024
London's Islington Council has passed a motion calling for a complete ban on the sale of disposable e-cigarettes in the area by 2024.

According to a report by UK news outlet mylondon, the council of the London Borough of Ealing has approved a motion, calling for a complete ban on the sale of disposable e-cigarettes in the area by 2024.

A motion has been put forward calling on Parliament to use its authority to restrict the sale of disposable e-cigarettes in the area. Some members of Parliament argue that there are more pressing issues to address and defended the Parliament's record on license compliance targets. However, spokespeople from all political parties agree that the issue of e-cigarettes and protecting children is a top priority in the region.

Member of Parliament Connie Hersch expressed concern about the trend of marketing e-cigarette alternatives to children. "The worst are those cheap disposable e-cigarettes that come in candy-like colors and flavors, they have found a new market in children and teenagers.

The revised motion was overwhelmingly passed by almost all members, but it remains unclear how the ban will become a reality in the area without government support.

PMI Responds to 'Why is PMI Still Selling Cigarettes': Stopping Sales Is Not the Solution, Driving Consumer Transformation Is Key
PMI recently addressed the ongoing controversy regarding its continued sale of cigarettes on LinkedIn, emphasizing that achieving a smoke-free future requires reducing demand for cigarettes rather than an outright ban. The company's Chief Communications Officer said that simply halting cigarette sales will not solve the demand issue but will instead drive the market toward illegal trade or other brands.
