Peterborough Affected Most by Proposed Disposable Ban in UK
Peterborough is predicted to be one of the hardest-hit areas by the UK government's proposed disposable e-cigarette ban.

According to the British media Telegraph, Peterborough is estimated to become one of the areas most affected by the proposed government ban on disposable e-cigarettes in the UK.

The online e-cigarette retailer Go Smoke Free used the advanced search function of the Companies House on GOV.UK to identify businesses registered as retailers of tobacco products in brick-and-mortar stores. The number of these active businesses was then compared to the population of each town or city.

Peterborough ranks ninth in the UK's "Smoking Capital" list, with 9.68 stores for every 100,000 residents. There are a total of 17 businesses registered as "tobacco product retail specialists" in Peterborough.

Blackburn is the tobacco capital of the UK, with 27 registered tobacco retailers serving 119,707 residents. This equates to 22.56 e-cigarette retailers per 100,000 residents, making it the city with the highest number of e-cigarette retailers in the UK.

A spokesperson for Go Smoke Free said, "In recent years, disposable e-cigarettes have become popular due to their convenience, portability, and affordable price. For those who may not be able to invest in a more complex e-cigarette, disposable e-cigarettes are an attractive option. The new ban on disposable e-cigarettes should help prevent children from consuming e-cigarettes while also encouraging adults to switch to more sustainable alternatives, such as refillable e-cigarettes.

This study highlights which regions in the UK are most likely to be affected by the upcoming ban on disposable e-cigarette sales. The e-cigarette culture in these cities may undergo significant changes, as the ban will impact consumer behavior and existing e-cigarette retailers will adjust their products to comply with the new regulations.

The plan to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes in order to protect children's health has been announced by Prime Minister Rich-Sunak, which is expected to come into effect in 2024 and be implemented in early 2025.
