Quebec plans to tax e-cigarette products
Quebec plans to tax e-cigarettes, following federal government's lead. Other provinces are also considering similar measures.

Quebec is planning to impose taxes on electronic cigarette products. This idea was included in Thursday's economic update and has been welcomed by anti-tobacco organizations.


The federal government has already implemented similar taxes which will come into effect in the new year. Quebec's sales tax is expected to match them, and will be applied to product prices in the fall of next year.


Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador are all progressing in the same direction.


The staff of the Quebec Coalition for Tobacco Control (QCTC) is pleased that Quebec is taking this measure along with other provinces because they report a significant increase in high school students using nicotine e-cigarette products.
