SC Labs Announces Expansion to Southern California with New Lab in Los Angeles
SC Labs expands to Southern California, opening a new lab in Van Nuys to provide compliance testing for the cannabis industry.

SC Labs, a company specializing in cannabis testing, has announced plans to expand its operations to Southern California, beginning with the opening of a new laboratory in Los Angeles.

A new facility in the Van Nuys community of Los Angeles spanning over 12,000 square feet will be used for both research and compliance testing of cannabis, similar to a corresponding facility in Santa Cruz. This will provide faster turnaround times and allow for customers south of Santa Barbara to process their samples. The new laboratory will offer a complete range of California-compliant tests including potency, pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, microbiologicals, moisture activity, and foreign matter as well as terpene and shelf stability testing. By opening this new state-of-the-art laboratory, SC Labs will offer additional testing capabilities and more research resources.

The new laboratory will operate similar to SC in Santa Cruz, maintaining the same technology stack (laboratory information system and SC customer service portal) and chemical metrology reports for customers to conduct testing on cannabinoids and terpenes. The Los Angeles facility will also offer stability testing to determine the shelf life by February 2023.

Jeff Journey, CEO of SC Labs, expressed enthusiasm for expanding their high-quality testing services to a wider area in California. "With this expansion, we are doubling down on California as a leading market, where we believe regulatory oversight enforces proper testing requirements," he said. "We are excited to begin working in Southern California and providing accurate testing services for more clients as this market continues to mature and develop.

Jeff Gray, co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of SC Labs, stated, "For years, our clients have requested that we open a laboratory in Southern California and we are thrilled to have finally fulfilled that request. This new state-of-the-art laboratory has doubled our testing capabilities in California, allowing us to engage in more research and development. Importantly, it provides ample and surplus testing capacity for all of our clients.

It is estimated that by 2026, the total sales of medical and recreational marijuana in the United States will surpass $52.6 billion, with California currently being the world's largest legal marijuana market. In regulated marijuana markets such as California, products for sale must undergo a series of tests at nationally accredited laboratories to help ensure their safety and accurate labeling. SC Labs allows clients to meet these requirements and ultimately help them meet market demand.

SC Labs currently has marijuana testing labs in Santa Cruz, California, Colorado, Michigan, and Oregon, in addition to Los Angeles. The company will begin accepting new clients in mid-December and host a formal grand opening in early January. With this growth, SC Labs will hire personnel for two California locations in the new year.
