According to a report by Malaysia's Oriental Daily News on September 17, Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority officers successfully intercepted a smuggled shipment of e-cigarettes at the Woodlands Checkpoint on August 16. A total of 6010 pieces were seized. The illegal items were hidden in a Malaysian-registered tour bus and attempted to evade inspection, but were detected by X-ray scanning.
Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) revealed on social media posts that enforcement officers found a large quantity of disposable e-cigarettes in the luggage compartment after conducting a detailed inspection of the bus. The smuggled items have now been handed over to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in Singapore for further investigation.
According to Singaporean law, the sale, importation, and use of e-cigarettes are all illegal activities. Those involved in this case may face severe penalties, and law enforcement officials have stated that they will continue to crackdown on such unlawful behavior.
