Special Operation Seizes Counterfeit Tobacco Products in Konya, Turkey
Turkish authorities raid shops in Konya, seizing hundreds of thousands of counterfeit tobacco products and arresting five suspects.

According to a report by trthaber, a special team from Turkey's anti-smuggling and organized crime department in Konya conducted raids on five shops in the Eregli district suspected of illegally selling tobacco products. The operation resulted in the seizure of 320,600 empty pods with counterfeit tax stamps, 22,500 cigarette papers, 2,230 packs of finished cigarettes, 296 bottles of e-liquid, 50 e-cigarettes, 25 kilograms of water pipe tobacco, 16 kilograms of shredded tobacco, and tobacco rolling machines and compressors. Five suspects were arrested during the operation.

The investigation focuses on a timeline involving Reynolds American’s $5 million donation to MAGA Inc. in April 2026 and subsequent vape policy developments. Wyden said the review aims to examine potential links between political donations, corporate communications and government decisions. The investigation does not represent a finding of wrongdoing.

On July 23, 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed its version of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes Section 707 provisions requiring the Department of Defense to evaluate tobacco use and nicotine alternatives among military personnel. The pilot program would examine products including vapes, nicotine pouches and heated tobacco products, primarily among active-duty service members who continue using combustible tobacco. The provision is a policy evaluation effort, not an authorization for military vaping promotion or a ban on vape products.

Charlie’s Holdings said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration notified the company on June 23, 2026, that 30 PACHA vape SKUs with submitted PMTAs had been tentatively identified for inclusion on a planned public-facing FDA webpage. Under enforcement guidance issued by FDA in May, the webpage is intended to identify certain unauthorized products for which the agency generally does not intend to prioritize enforcement of premarket authorization requirements. China’s vape exports to the U.S. reached approximately $1.58 billion in the first half of 2026, remaining broadly stable from a year earlier but still below previous growth momentum. 2Firsts’ analysis of China Customs data shows that the U.S. market has not simply returned to its previous trajectory after the enforcement shock and inventory-driven swings of 2025. Instead, export momentum is shifting across product categories. Vaping devices and atomization hardware increased 15.2% year over year, while 6-methyl nicotine-related and other nicotine substitute products surged 234.7%. Meanwhile, traditional nicotine-containing vaping products continued to face pressure.
