Special Operation Seizes Counterfeit Tobacco Products in Konya, Turkey
Turkish authorities raid shops in Konya, seizing hundreds of thousands of counterfeit tobacco products and arresting five suspects.

According to a report by trthaber, a special team from Turkey's anti-smuggling and organized crime department in Konya conducted raids on five shops in the Eregli district suspected of illegally selling tobacco products. The operation resulted in the seizure of 320,600 empty pods with counterfeit tax stamps, 22,500 cigarette papers, 2,230 packs of finished cigarettes, 296 bottles of e-liquid, 50 e-cigarettes, 25 kilograms of water pipe tobacco, 16 kilograms of shredded tobacco, and tobacco rolling machines and compressors. Five suspects were arrested during the operation.

Bremen’s state government warns of increasingly active illicit trade in e-cigarettes, snus, and nicotine pouches. Enforcement reports “violations in nearly every inspection,” with some disposable vapes exceeding Germany’s 2 ml e-liquid cap. Since 2024, authorities have recorded 54 violations in 255 checks, concentrated around the central station district and city center.

Growth was led by reduced-risk products (RRP): total RRP volume climbed 40%, with heated tobacco (HTS) up 53%. In Japan, the launches of Ploom AURA and EVO pods pushed HTS category share to 15.5%, while the Ploom user base has nearly doubled versus two years ago.
