Staffordshire County Council Seizes Over £50,000 Illegal Tobacco Products

Staffordshire County Council officials seize over £50,000 worth of illegal tobacco products in recent raid, including 71,000 cigarettes.

According to a report from Expressandstar on April 26th, officers from the Trading Standards department of Staffordshire County Council in England recently confiscated illegal tobacco products with a retail value exceeding £50,000 during a search operation.

In this operation, the department seized over 71,000 illegal cigarettes and 50 kilograms of hand-rolled tobacco.

Philippines Customs data showed that illegal cigarettes and vape products seized during the first seven months of 2026 were valued at about PHP11.68 billion, exceeding the PHP2.516 billion recorded for the full year of 2025. The figures were disclosed by a Bureau of Customs official during a House Committee on Ways and Means hearing on tobacco excise tax reforms. Vape-related seizures were valued at about PHP1.65 billion, with most cases recorded at the Manila International Container Port. Customs officials said enforcement against illicit tobacco trade would continue.

Australia’s Daily Smoking Rate Falls to Record Low of 5.8% as Nicotine Use Patterns Shift

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s National Drug Strategy Household Survey, daily smoking among Australians aged 18 and over fell to a record low of 5.8% in 2025. Vapor products are excluded from the new category and remain subject to New York's separate 20% supplemental sales tax on the retail price.
