Stop & Shop to Stop Selling Tobacco Products by 8/31
Stop & Shop to cease cigarette sales in all 360 stores by August 31 to promote customer health in Northeast US.

According to Axios reported on August 27th, the US chain supermarket Stop & Shop will stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products in its 360 stores by August 31st.

The chain supermarket stated that this move will help improve the health of customers in Massachusetts and four other states. However, for tobacco users, this decision may be disappointing.

Furthermore, this retailer will be holding a cigarette buy-back event at two stores in Grove Hall and Staten Island on Wednesday, the 28th. The first 100 customers at each store to return unopened packs of cigarettes or cigarette boxes will receive a Stop & Shop gift card.

According to reports, Stop & Shop is not the first company to take such measures. Wegmans supermarket ceased selling cigarettes as early as 2008, and CVS and Walmart have also stopped selling tobacco products.

Due to concerns about teenagers vaping e-cigarettes, Massachusetts banned mint-flavored and flavored tobacco products in 2020.

Stop & Shop is a regional chain of supermarkets located in the northeastern United States, with its headquarters in Massachusetts.
