Turkish Police Intercepts Passenger Smuggling Cigarettes and E-Cigarettes
Turkish police intercept a bus and find smuggled cigarettes and e-cigarettes in a passenger's luggage, leading to legal action.

According to reports by the Turkish media outlet haberler, the Mus Police in Turkey have intercepted a bus and discovered smuggled cigarettes and e-cigarettes in a passenger's suitcase. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the individual.

 

According to the statement from the provincial governor, personnel from the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Division and the Drug Crime Division of the Provincial Police Bureau intercepted a passenger bus at a checkpoint yesterday. During the search, 100 packs of cigarettes and 100 e-cigarettes were found in the luggage of a passenger.

 

The passenger was taken action against for "opposition to Law No. 5607".

It also raises a central regulatory question: whether waterpipe tobacco will follow China’s private-sector e-cigarette licensing model or be reserved for the state tobacco system, as with nicotine pouches, in the years ahead.

KT&G announced on Aug. 13, 2026, that it has opened “lil Archive,” a brand exhibition space in Seoul showcasing the evolution, technology platforms and future direction of its heated tobacco brand lil since its launch in 2017. Indonesia is entering a new phase of debate over vape and tobacco regulation. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has proposed a total vape ban, with some lawmakers supporting stronger restrictions.
